The Southeastern Mass Veterans Housing Program inc was
founded in 1990 by a group of Vietnam veterans as well as local community
leaders. It is a private, nonprofit corporation known as the Veterans
Transition House. Originally having just ten single rooms for occupancy, it has
now expanded to 50 beds for males veterans and is in the process of building 10
beds for female veterans. The Graduate program has 17 units of supportive
housing. The mission of the VTH Graduate Programs is to provide independent,
affordable, structured, drug and alcohol-free houses to veterans in order that
they can use the lessons learned in the initial VTH program with the goal of achieving
successful independent living within the community. So far the Southeastern
Massachusetts Veterans Housing Program provided aid to over 2,000 veterans.
